Rapid Prototyping of 3D-Printed AgNPs- and Nano-TiO2-Embedded Hydrogels as Novel Devices with Multiresponsive Antimicrobial Capability in Wound Healing

Two antimicrobial agents such as silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and titanium dioxide (TiO2) have been formulated with natural polysaccharides (chitosan or alginate) to develop innovative inks for the rapid, customizable, extremely accurate manufacturing of 3D-printed scaffolds useful dressings in treatment infected skin wounds. Suitable chemical–physical properties applicability these devices were demonstrated through evaluation water content (88–93%), mechanical strength (Young’s modulus 0.23–0.6 MPa), elasticity, morphology. The tests performed against Staphylococcus aureus Pseudomonas aeruginosa activities Gram+ Gram− bacteria AgNPs TiO2 embedded chitosan (CH) alginate (ALG) macroporous 3D hydrogels (AgNPs MIC starting from 5 µg/mL). biocompatibility was widely using cell viability higher than that observed alginate. Constructs containing at 10 µg/mL concentration level did not significantly alter well presence dioxide; cytotoxicity towards human fibroblasts an 100 µg/mL. In conclusions, developed here are cheap, highly defined, easy manufacture further apply personalized medicine applications.
